🥘 Ingredients

Ingredients for making a vegan oreo milkshake on a table.
  • Dairy-free vanilla ice cream - I used So Delicious vanilla bean coconut milk.
  • Vegan milk - I used oat milk, but you can use any plant-based milk you prefer.
  • Oreos - yes, Oreos are vegan! Double stuff works the best.
  • Vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips - I used Nestle Toll House.

See the recipe card at the bottom for quantities.

🥣 Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Blend the ingredients

• In a high-powered blender, add the ice cream, plant milk, Oreos, and chocolate chips and mix until smooth.

Hint: If you want a little extra something, top your milkshake with some whipped cream, an additional Oreo cookie, or even a cherry!

🧂Substitutions

  • Oreos - you can use other sandwich creams like store-brand Oreos. You can also use the gluten-free version to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Chocolate chips - you can add any baking chips that you like. Dark or white chocolate would be delicious!
  • Ice cream - use any brand of dairy-free ice cream that you like. Breyers and So Delicious are really good brands.
  • Non-dairy milk - you can use oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk or any other dairy-free milk.

📖 Variations

  • Chocolate - Use vegan chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla to make a chocolate milkshake.
  • Mint - Add ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract for a mint oreo shake.
  • Strawberry - For a strawberry oreo milkshake, use vegan strawberry ice cream or blend in ½ cup of fresh or frozen strawberries.
  • Mocha - Add 1 tablespoon of instant coffee or espresso powder for a mocha oreo shake.
  • Peanut Butter - Add a bit of peanut butter to the mix for a peanut butter milkshake.
  • Fun Flavors - Use other flavors of Oreos or ice cream to make all kinds of fun flavor combinations.

🍽 Equipment Used

  • Ninja blender
  • Milkshake glasses

🥡 Storage

I recommend enjoying your milkshake immediately, as it will lose its consistency if stored in the fridge or freezer.

You can store any leftover ice cream in the carton in your freezer and leftover Oreos in an airtight container in your pantry.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  • If you want extra thick milkshakes, add less milk. If you want it thinner, add more milk or a bit less ice cream.
  • Taste as you go and adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more or fewer chocolate chips.
  • The recipe calls for 10 Oreos but feel free to add more or less, depending on how many cookies you want in your shake! Just keep in mind that your milkshake will thicken up if you add more cookies.

💭 FAQ

Are Oreos vegan?

Yes, Oreos are vegan! The classic Oreo cookies are made with sugar, unbleached enriched flour, palm oil, cocoa, high fructose corn syrup, baking soda, soy lecithin, and chocolate.

Where can I buy vegan Oreos?

Since Oreos are naturally vegan, you should be able to find them at any grocery store. However, if you have trouble finding them, you can also purchase them online.

What kind of blender should I use?

We really like our Ninja blender but any blender will work just fine.
